Water Catastrophe!

By Zaria Hicks

As may you know, Greenspun has water fountains, but some people don’t think it’s the cleanest. The school water is safe, but what about the water fountain itself? Do they clean it? How old are the water fountains? Why not have a water bottle? These are the real questions that need to be asked and answered.

Some students at GJHS, and maybe people you may know, don’t carry water bottles. The most common answer heard is “I don’t feel like carrying one.” The students who don't carry water bottles either a) drink out of the water fountain; b) waterfall a friend's water bottle; c) only drink the milk at lunch; or d) they dont drink water and their throat is as dry as the Sahara Desert. These types of students are very common.

As you may notice, GJHS is a very old school, our school has been schooling children for 32 years. Majority of our school is old fashioned from the gym to the courtyard, so it's likely that the water fountain and the pipes are as old as the school.

There are janitorial services at our school. The janitors keep our school clean and sanitary, but if you look at the water fountain it doesn't look too clean. If you were a janitor would you want to clean the water fountain? Probably not, right? If you look at the school water fountain you can see some gross things, that may even scar you. On the water fountain you can see that the drain looks a little rusty. You can also see a little green substance near the drain as well.

There are ways for the school to keep the fountain clean. For one they can get new fountains or they can just clean out the pipes. Either option will ensure that the water is clean and will most likely make the school look cleaner. It would also help if the school sold water bottles to kids who don’t bring one.

All in all, the school wouldn’t risk our health, meaning the water from the water fountain is safe to drink, but be careful with the germs that could be on the water fountain. Use your sleeve!
