Natalia’s Choir Adventure

By Shevella Sala

Natalia Richie is a part of the choir here at Greenspun. Natalia said she started doing choir in 4th grade at her elementary school, Mc Doniell. When asked why she chose to do choir she replied “I chose to be in choir because I have always loved music. From an early age I loved to sing, dance, and play the piano.” Natalia noted “ I love singing. It has been something that I have always enjoyed. I like to sing because there is something so beautiful about someone's voice because of how meaningful it is to that person. I also love how every single person's voice sounds so different and unique!” What drew Natalia to the music industry was her family she said “They always encouraged me to do vocal lessons and to keep singing no matter how old I got.”

Being in the music industry for 5 years, Natalia has learned “How to sing better, how to read  notes and how to stay on tempo”. When asked if she had any big achievements she said “One of my big achievements I've had in choir was when I got into concert choir. I love being in concert choir and it really keeps me challenged.” Challenges Natalia says she faces in choir are, “Singing the correct notes on the correct tempo.” When asked what Natalia likes about choir she said “I love that choir just overall brings people together. All of the people I have met are so nice and welcoming. I also love the performing and singing of course!”

Natalia said an average day in choir consists of “Vocal warm ups, then get our binders that have all of our music and sight reading in it. After warm ups we do sight reading. Sight reading is practicing the solfege scale with notes and sheet music. After that we usually practice our music for upcoming performances.”  When asked if anything about choir made her nervous she said “Sometimes the performances and the tests.”Other than being in choir she also mentioned some of her other hobbies, those being “Wake surfing, singing, and sometimes skateboarding.”
