Application process
All students wishing to attend a Magnet/CTA school must submit an application. Families are encouraged to research schools carefully and attend one or more community events in order to receive the best information about each program offering. There are many opportunities for families to research Magnet, CTA, and Select School programs.
STEP 1: EXPLORE & RESEARCH
Explore your interests and participate in informational activities/events that will help you make the best decision possible such as:
attend workshops and informational meetings
find virtual campus tours
check out magnet fairs: CCSD Magnet Events
Research:
Is East Tech a good match for your educational needs and goals?
Does East Tech offer clubs and activities that match your interests?
Do you live within East Tech's transportation zone?
STEP 2: APPLY ONLINE - Applications are open.
Choose up to three program or school choices that best match your interest and complete your application by clicking here.
Apply by the specified deadline of 3:00 PM, January 9, 2024. Late applications will be accepted, however they are not considered for the initial lottery. Late applications open after the original deadline, apply at magnet.ccsd.net.*
Please check your transportation eligibility to East Tech at transportation.ccsd.net. East Tech provides bus transportation for students who are zoned for Chaparral HS, Desert Pines HS, Eldorado HS, or Las Vegas HS and live more than two miles from East Tech. You may reference the CTA Transportation Map here.
If you have a sibling who will be attending East Tech during the same year of your initial enrollment, please enter their name(s) in the sibling category so you may be considered for sibling preference. The sibling and applicant do not have to be in the same program, just at the same school. A sibling preference is not a guarantee of enrollment. Click here for more information regarding sibling preferences and other preferences considered in the selection process.
QUALIFICATIONS
If there are more applications than there are seats available, a computerized random lottery will be used to select students. High school magnet programs are categorized as either interest-based or STEM-based. All STEM-based programs require students to qualify for the program before entering the lottery for admission; interest-based programs do not have qualifications. Click here regarding more specific information on the programs and criteria.
Report cards are not required if the student has applied to only interest-based programs.
Current first semester/trimester report cards will be utilized to qualify for STEM-based programs. CCSD students do not need to submit a report card as report cards will be uploaded directly from CCSD’s Infinite Campus.
Any applicant who currently attends a charter, private, or other non-CCSD schools must submit a copy of their first semester/trimester report card by the application deadline or they will be marked as not qualified. If you have trouble uploading the report card, you may email it to me at gonzad2@nv.ccsd.net.
Step 3: CHECK YOUR EMAIL
Confirmation for a successful application submission as well as application updates and notifications will be emailed to you. If you have not received a confirmation email, please check your email account’s spam/junk filter.
It is highly recommended that you periodically log into your account to check your dashboard for updates.
Step 4: AFTER THE LOTTERY
Once the applications have been processed through the lottery, you will be notified of your status via email. Results may also be viewed on the parent dashboard.
Possible lottery results:
Not qualified
Student did not qualify to go through the lottery process
Selected
If you are "selected", parents/guardians will need to log into the dashboard to accept the seat by the specified deadline.
You will receive registration information from East Tech. You will need to comply with the registration instructions provided to you.
Alternate Pool (the number of applicants exceeded the number of available seats)
If you receive an "alternate pool" status, you will remain in the pool until if/when a seat becomes available. Offers can be made up until the second week of the following school year.
If the student wishes to accept the seat for which they has been selected, the applicant must accept the seat online on the dashboard in their magnet account.
Notes:
Any applicants not selected during this initial lottery are placed into an alternate pool. Should a student choose not to attend after being selected for a Magnet/CTA seat, the vacant seat will be assigned to a student in the alternate pool, through a computerized, random selection prior to the end of the second week of each school year.
If seats are available after the initial lottery and after the alternate pool has been exhausted, late applications will be utilized to fill vacancies.
