Respect: Treating your peers and teachers with resect is essential. This class is designed to run like a workplace, which emphasizes career exploration such as jobs in engineering, technology, and design. I am the supervisor and you are the employee. In a traditional workplace, when employees treat each other or their supervisor with disrespect, consequences are put into action.
When you're absent: You are responsible for finding out what you missed when you have been absent and are responsible for making up missing work. You are welcome to stay after on my designated extra help day, Wednesday or make arrangements with me in advance to stay another day that is more convenient.
Cell phone use: Phone usage needs to be limited to legitimate purposes only (contacting home if after school plans change, looking up a password, setting a reminder, adding something to the calendar, etc.) and is not permitted during instructional time. Permission should be granted by me ahead of time. If cell phone use is abused, it may be held in the office until the end of day.
Timeliness and attendance: It is essential to your success that you arrive on time and ready to work. After 3 times late without a pass, a lunch or after school detention is issued. Students receive three B.E.A.R grades (every 2 weeks) which reflect Behavior, Effort, Attitude, & Respect.
Bell ringer: Upon arrival, you should log in to your computer & complete the Daily Question posted in Google Classroom. If absent, you need to complete this at home. Each question is worth 1 point, totaling 30 cumulative points.
Instructional time: This is my time to talk and your time to listen to important information and demonstrations that will benefit you in the projects you will be completing later in the class. 90% of my class time is YOUR time, meaning you're completing independent work at your workstations. It's important that you're quiet for the 5-10 minutes of instructions so you're prepared for the day ahead.
Independent lab time: This is YOUR time to work on your projects while I circulate and answer questions. Class time should be used wisely, as we are limited to only 30 days.
Food/drinks: You are free to eat and drink in the STEAM lab as long as it is not by the computers. Food & drinks must stay at the tables in the canter of the room. The best time to snack is during instructional time at the beginning of the period.
Bathroom/nurse/guidance/locker: If you must leave the classroom to use the bathroom, go to your locker, see the nurse/guidance, you will need a pass signed by me. Bathroom visits should be done at the very beginning of class during passing time, but let me know you're going first. You may not leave the classroom during instructional time to avoid missing important information/demonstrations.
Fragrances: Please refrain from spraying or applying any sprays, lotions, or hand sanitizers that have a fragrance such as cologne or perfume. Myself and many of your teachers & peers are sensitive to these smells and this classroom does not have exterior windows that can be opened to allow ventilation. If you must wear a fragrance, please apply it at home or in the rest room, preferably after my class.
