Prerequisite: Successful Completion of Biology
Human Anatomy and Physiology is a year-long Honors level course designed for students who want to further their knowledge of the structure and function of the organ systems in the human body. This course is highly recommended for students in the Medical Science Academy that plan on taking Med Sci IV. It builds on many of the concepts learned in biology and chemistry and allows students to apply those principles to authentic life situations as they study the human body. Students will learn more advanced laboratory skills and techniques. Dissection with dignity is an integral part of the laboratory experience. Each unit consists of the structure and function, and diseases and disorders of various body systems. While these components are the main focus of each unit, there are other topics as well that focus on critical thinking and application skills. Human Anatomy and Physiology will help prepare students to take more advanced courses in the medical and health related fields. Students will be expected to complete work outside of the classroom and work collaboratively with their peers in the classroom. In order to be successful in this course, students must be active participants in their learning and participate in the laboratory experiences including dissections.
