This is a half-year course focused on learning about cells and how they are involved in all living things. Students will learn how to use microscopes to identify cells and cellular structures and will learn how to make different types of slides in their investigation of the different types of cells that make up the human body. Other types of cells such as plant cells, bacteria, as well as viruses will also be explored. Cellular processes such as cellular respiration, photosynthesis, and membrane transport will be a focus as students learn how the cells play a critical role in maintaining homeostasis. This course is aimed at building a solid foundation for students interested in careers involving biology or health professions (nurses, doctors, physical therapists, medical technologists, etc.).
