How can you help reframe your child’s mindset at home?

  • The easiest way to accomplish this is to listen to the way in which your child reacts to challenges during learning activities or even the tone in which they discuss what they learned that day. If you hear negative self-talk, offer a way to think about the challenge in a more positive way. Examples include:




Examples of praise you can give that are related to effort include:

  • Your writing is improving a lot! The extra time and use of an outline have really helped.
  • This is a challenging passage. If you get stuck, try to use your strategies. Remember it’s okay to ask for help.
  • I see you didn’t do as well as you hoped for. Let’s review what was wrong and make sure we understand the lesson.
  • These math problems may look too hard to solve, but if you give your best effort and follow the problem solving checklist - you will be able to answer some.
