Title I is a federally funded program that allows qualifying schools to provide supplemental services for students in need of assistance in reading and math. Norwayne Elementary is fortunate to qualify as a "targeted assistance" school. Needs assessment surveys completed by all parties involved will be used to help develop the Title I program, measure the effectiveness of the program, and make changes in the program as needed.
The Title 1 program strives to provide an environment that:
Promotes a positive attitude towards reading and/or math.
Improves student achievement and growth in reading and/or math.
Builds students' self-esteem and confidence
Enables parents to be reading and math partners with their child
Parent involvement is very important to the success of the Title I program. If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Title I coordinator, Mr. Vince Sette, at visette@norwayne.net or 330-435-6383 x 10103.

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) states that parents of students in schools participating in a Title I program may request information regarding the professional qualifications of their child's classroom teacher, including the following:
Whether the teacher has met the Ohio teacher licensing criteria for the grade level and subject areas in which they teacher provides instruction.
Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or temporary status that waives state licensing requirements.
The college degree major of the teacher and any other graduate degree or certification.
Whether your child is provided services by instructional paraprofessionals (sometimes called teachers aides) and their qualifications.
Parents who wish to request information regarding the professional qualifications of their child's classroom teacher may contact the building principal.
The Title I Program focuses on reading, language arts, and math intervention. It is designed to supplement services to students using a variety of models:
Limited pull out in which children are removed from their classrooms for a limited period of time for intensive intervention;
In class, in which Title I children receive extra assistance in the same setting and time period as their regular class.
Students can "exit" the program based on their progress in the area of concern. The title I teacher and classroom teacher and the parent work together to determine the needs of the student.
Selection for participation in the Title I program is based on the following criteria:
Teacher recommendation
Parental Input
Class Rank
Performance on State or District Standardized Assessments
Norwayne Local Schools seeks the active participation of all Title I students' parents in improving their children's academic achievement. Parents are encouraged to communicate regularly with teachers to discuss the progress of their child. We encourage parental help and assistance in a variety of ways:
Participation in parent/teacher conference days scheduled throughout the school year.
Letters and notes to and from home
Emails between parents and teachers
Telephone conversations between parents and teachers
Activities for families
