Practices

Practice will begin promptly at 2:35, we will meet in the PAC/Fitness Room just off of the Symmes Lobby. Late athletes risk missing important information.

Once we are outside, we typically do not return to the building until the end of practice. If an athlete needs to reenter the building it must be with a coach.

Parents should plan to pick up their children at 4:15 outside of the Symmes Lobby. Please make every effort to be on time, coaches do not leave until the kids are gone.

Anyone who is going to miss practice or who needs to leave early should contact Mr. Sturtevant prior to practice so accommodations may be made in the event we are leaving the NAMS property for practice.

Our practice normally follows the following schedule:

    • 5-10 minute meeting for attendance and any general info

    • 5 minute warm up run

    • 10-15 minute dynamic warm up

    • 5 minute small group meetings to discuss the goals for the day's practice

    • 20-30 minutes of running depending on the ability level of the runner. Pace will vary.

    • 5-10 minutes of form and speed drills

    • 5-10 minutes of core workout

    • 10 minutes of static stretching

    • 5 minute team debrief to discuss upcoming meets or anything that came up during practice

Themed Practices and Special Guests

We try to have some "special" practices where there are themes or even prizes for accomplishing certain tasks. Those will be communicated ahead of time.

Additionally, we try to invite local professionals to work with our runners on making healthy choices and being the best athlete they can be. In the past we have had:

  • Physical therapists to talk about injury prevention and practice a pre and post run stretch routine

  • Nutritionists to discuss healthy food choices to enhance our pre and post run fueling

  • Yoga classes taught by certified teachers to enhance flexibility and core strength.
