PRINCIPAL NEWS & NOTES
Attention 5th Grade Families
The start of each school year at North Allegheny introduces the District’s fifth grade outdoor learning experience at Camp Kon-O-Kwee. All of our District fifth grade students have an opportunity to spend three days and two nights at camp and become involved in the annual Environmental Education Program. The program is conducted by teachers from Marshall Elementary School, and it includes study in areas such as water ecology, ecosystems, team building, and other hands-on environmental activities.
The purpose of camp is to provide fifth grade students an opportunity to learn about the outdoors first-hand. This experience is also designed to encourage positive interaction with other students and staff. This is not a vacation from learning, but instead provides an authentic environmental education experience which supports the North Allegheny curriculum. In order to maintain safety and security, only students and MES staff members are permitted at camp.
Our students will spend three days and two nights at camp under the supervision of Marshall Elementary teaching staff and administration. Camp Kon-O-Kwee is equipped for comfortable and safe living, as well as a center for outdoor education.
The fee for this camping trip is $125, which includes six meals, transportation, and insurance. Details were shared during the 5th Grade Curriculum Night on Thursday, September 6th. If you desire additional information, please contact your child's 5th grade teacher.
Forms are posted on the MES website but can also be found by clicking this link. Please be sure to review the Proper Camp Behavior with your child and submit the appropriate forms by their due dates:
