PRINCIPAL NEWS & NOTES
MES PSSA Calendar for April & May 2019
Beginning the week of April 15th, all students in grades 3 - 5 will take the PSSA exams. Students in grade 4 will also take the Science PSSA exam. Spring Break happens to fall within the ELA testing window this school year. So, we created a schedule around the break along with "Take Your Child to Work Day." We kindly ask our MES families to be cognizant of our testing days because we cannot approve trips for educational travel on these days.
Your child’s attendance at school is extremely important, and an absence during PSSA testing will require your child to test on a make-up day, thus impacting regularly scheduled instructional time. We truly appreciate your support.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
Please scroll through the visual schedule below:
Attention 5th Grade Parents: 5th Grade Health Curriculum Talks
The Pennsylvania Board of Education has mandated that schools instruct elementary students about Immune System and Bloodborne Pathogens with a focus on Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) during the school year.
North Allegheny offers this instruction as part of the 5th grade Health curriculum and is scheduled to be instructed from 1:15pm to 2:00pm on the following dates at Marshall Elementary:
March 25, 2019 Sections 5D and 5E
April 1, 2019 Sections 5F and 5B
April 8, 2019 Sections 5C and 5A
Per state guidelines, any student may be excused from the instruction if a written excuse is furnished to the building principal by the student’s parent or guardian in advance.
The State Board and North Allegheny School District believe that there is an immediate need to educate students about life-threatening diseases, so that students understand how to protect themselves from exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens/AIDS virus.
The classes will be conducted by our Certified School Nurse, Lisa Allen, with assistance from the classroom teacher.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call the Health Office at 724-934-6075.
School Closings and Delays
Just as a reminder, in the event of a two hour delay, morning activities at MES are cancelled. This includes ensembles that typically meet at 8:00AM.
Also, kindergarten parents - please be mindful of the modified schedule for kindergarten when there is a school day:
AM Kindergarten: 11:00AM - 12:45PM
PM Kindergarten: 1:45PM - 3:30PM
In the event that North Allegheny Schools are closed because of snow or other emergency conditions, the official announcement is provided on the NA website and is also placed on NATV Cable and communicated to local television stations.
Families should also receive notification through the District's School Messenger system. Please make sure your contact information is up-to-date.
