PRINCIPAL NEWS & NOTES
During the week of October 22nd through October 26th, the North Allegheny elementary schools will celebrate National Drug and Alcohol Prevention Week. At each elementary school, we will participate in a variety of activities, using materials that promote good decision-making. Classroom lessons and messages will focus on helping students understand that they are responsible for making healthy choices in life. Choosing to be alcohol, tobacco, and drug free is one of the best choices that they can make!
Here are the building-wide dress up themes for the week:

MES Health & Physical Education Teachers Need Your Help
The Health and Physical Education teachers have applied for a $2,500 grant to put towards the School Biking Program at MES. The grant is the Farmers Insurance Thank a Teacher grant, and sixty grants are awarded based on the number of votes each proposal receives. In order to try to get this grant, we need your votes!
The proposal can be voted on one time/day per email address. If you have multiple email addresses, you can use each of them. You can vote every single day until the voting closes on November 3rd. To vote, click on the following link:
https://www.farmers.com/thank-americas-teachers/vote-for-a-teacher/vote-for-a-proposal-form/
Once you are at this page, type in “Crawford” under Teacher’s Last Name and click Search. Click on the proposal, and then enter your email address, check the box, and click Submit. To confirm your vote, you will receive an email at the address you listed. You will need to click on the link that is emailed to you to finalize your vote.
Please spread the word to anyone and everyone that you can! We appreciate your help, and hopefully we can get enough votes to be awarded this grant!
Change Wars: All for Books Campaign (October 15 - 19)
The All for Books campaign is sponsored by Scholastic. All funds raised will go directly to our MES Library, but additionally, Scholastic will match monetary donations with a donation of up to one million books to the Kids In Need Foundation and Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc.
On your Book Fair flyer, a baggie is attached. Please consider donating $1 or any spare change for this effort, during the dates of October 15 – 19. Each day, the class that collects the most change will receive a $25 Book Fair gift certificate for their teacher and ultimately their classroom library. At the end of the program, the classroom that collects the most money from each grade level will receive a $25 Book Fair gift certificate for their teacher and a grand prize of a $50 Book Fair gift certificate will be awarded to the classroom teacher that collects the most change from the entire campaign!
We hope everyone will enjoy participating in these activities!

Save Your Box Tops
On your mark…get set…send us your Box Tops!!!
It’s time to kick off our 2018-19 Box Tops for Education collection with our Fall Classroom Contest! The homeroom that collects the most Box Tops will earn $30 to be used at the Book Fair, an extra recess, and a trophy.
Here’s how the contest works: Every MES teacher has a Box Tops collection container. Simply send the clips you’ve been saving to school with your child. We’ll count all the Box Tops by classroom to see who has collected the most. The winning classroom will be announced a week after the contest ends.
This program is an easy way for MES to earn money for our school. During 2017-18, we earned more than $1,500. That’s a lot of cash but, with so many new families and enrollment increasing daily, we’d like to reach $2,000 this year.
No quantity is too small and, remember, your tissues won’t expire but the Box Tops on them do! The last day to submit is Friday, October 26thth.
Thank you so much for your support of this program!
