iPad

For students and teachers in grades K-8, iPad is an educational tool provided by the District for instruction. This page highlights core apps for teaching and learning, as well as iPad troubleshooting tips to keep devices running smoothly.

Core iPad Apps

Apple apps

Camera - Take and view photos, videos, time-lapse videos, slo-mo videos, scan QR codes, and more! Use the Markup tool on photos to add annotations, text, shapes, and more.

Classroom - Install this app from Self Service. This is a great app for teachers to use to view students' iPad screens, share files with your students, navigate students to websites, collect your students’ work, lock students into apps, lock devices, screen mirroring student work, and much more!

Clips - Create videos with filters, live titles, text, stickers, emojis, photos, soundtracks, and more! Choose from a list of languages for live titles. Clips projects can be saved as videos to Photo Library.

Files - Organize files and folders on iPad within this app. Students can send files from other apps, such as Notability and Voice Memos, that can be turned into Blackboard assignments.

GarageBand - Play, record, and share music within this app. Recorded songs in GarageBand can be exported and used with other apps, like iMovie.

iMovie - Create movies and trailers. Edit videos, add titles, add filters, and more! Video clips and images can be added as cutaway, picture in picture, split screen, green/blue screen, etc. iMovie projects can be exported as videos to Photo Library.

Keynote - Create presentations that include text, photos, videos, drawings, record audio, and more! When students are signed into their Managed Apple IDs, they can collaborate with others. Keynote projects can be exported as a PDF, Movie, Animated GIF, Images, etc. to the Files app on iPad.

Notes - Take notes, add hyperlinks, add drawings, create checklists, add tables, insert photos and videos, scan documents, and more! When students are signed into their Managed Apple IDs, they can collaborate with others. Completed Notes can be sent to the Files app on iPad.

Numbers - Insert data, convert data to 2D, 3D, and interactive graphs, insert photos and videos, record audio, add multiple sheets to the same file, and more! When students are signed into their Managed Apple IDs, they can collaborate with others. Numbers projects can be exported as a PDF to the Files app on iPad.

Pages - Create documents, books, reports, posters, newsletters, and more! Customize projects by adding text, photos, videos, drawings, record audio, and more! When students are signed into their Managed Apple IDs, they can collaborate with others. Pages projects can be exported as a PDF to the Files app on iPad.

Safari - Browse the web, bookmark webpages or add them to reading list for later, add page icons to the Home Screen for quick access. Use the Share button to AirDrop and to Markup pages. Take a screenshot to capture the screen or the full page, and add annotations to each screenshot. Edit the size of the font. Use Reader View to edit the font, background color, and remove advertisements on various sites.

Voice Memos - Make audio recordings! Recordings can be saved to the Files app on iPad, and they can also be added to other native iPad apps, such as Keynote, Pages, Notes, iMovie, etc.

Google apps

Drive - Sign into this app using your NA email. Create, organize, edit, upload, and share files! The Drive app is the "hub" of Google files; all Docs, Slides, Sheets, etc. are organized within Drive.

Docs - Sign into this app using your NA email. Create a document to edit, share, and collaborate with others! Use Google Drive to organize Google Docs files.

Slides - Sign into this app using your NA email. Create a presentation to edit, share, and collaborate with others! Use Google Drive to organize Google Slides files.

Sheets - Sign into this app using your NA email. Create a spreadsheet to edit, share, and collaborate with others! Use Google Drive to organize Google Sheets files.

Additional apps (free and paid for by the District)

Book Creator - Install this paid app from Self Service. This app allows users to create and share digital books and videos.

Explain Everything - Install this paid app from Self Service. Explain Everything allows you to record a video of what is on your "whiteboard" screen. This is a great app for creating tutorials, both by students and teachers.

Green Screen - Install this paid app from Self Service. Using photos and videos from Photo Library, create green screen videos and images to tell a story, explain an idea, and express thoughts in creative and unique ways!

Nearpod - Launch a lesson and give students feedback. Teachers can launch a live session where students can join a synchronous lesson, or teachers can share a code for students to complete at their own time and pace.

Notability - Install this paid app from Self Service. This app allows users to take notes, organize notes, and import/export files. Users should edit the Settings (bottom-left) and turn on Auto-Backup to Google Drive. Choose Note as the File Format for auto-backup.

Sketches School - Make drawings and sketch notes! Photos can be saved to Photo Library.
