According to Your Life Iowa - Experiencing a crisis can be scary. Whether it's related to alcohol, drugs, gambling, mental health, or suicidal thoughts. It can be difficult to know what to do or who to turn to. Remember you don't have to do it alone. There are many local, state and national resources that can provide care and support in a crisis.
In-person crisis support: Our Mobile Crisis Outreach program provides 24/7, in-person support where you are. This can include at home, a workplace, community location and more. This service is available in 12 Iowa counties. This is a FREE Service.
What we do: Mobile Crisis Outreach provides 24/7 in-person support for people in crisis. With Mobile Crisis Outreach, counselors will come to you at home, work, school or other location. Counselors will respond within one hour of receiving the request (adverse weather conditions may delay response time). MCO is a non-emergency response.
Upon arrival, counselors will:
· Assess the situation
· Attempt to stabilize and diffuse the crisis
· Provide counseling as needed
· Provide referrals to other Foundation 2 Crisis Services or community resources
· Within 24 hours after a call, a MCO team member will make a follow-up call with the client to check in on their well-being and connect them to additional resources, as needed.

What is a crisis? A crisis is any stress or pressure that has been become too great for you to cope with alone.

988 has been designated as the new three-digit dialing code that will route callers to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (now known as the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), and is now active across the United States. When people call, text, or chat 988, they will be connected to trained counselors that are part of the existing Lifeline network. These trained counselors will listen, understand how their problems are affecting them, provide support, and connect them to resources if necessary.
GuideLink Center – Iowa City: (319) 688-8000. Immediate, onsite assessment and stabilization – outside of a hospital or police station setting – for those age 18 and older, who are experiencing a mental health or addiction crisis. Calls and walk-ins welcome 24/7.
Linn County Mental Health Access Center – Cedar Rapids: (319) 892-5612. Assessment, support, services and referrals for people experiencing a mental health or addiction crisis that requires immediate attention. Calls and walk-ins welcome daily, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Iowa Warm Line
The Iowa Warm Line is a peer-run, telephone based, non-crisis and confidential listening line for anyone struggling with mental health or substance abuse issues. The Warm Line is staffed by individuals who have been through a similar journey and are in recovery themselves
