Our goal is to establish routine relations with high-level NOAA officals to review government policies and practices that appear to create or perpetuate racial discrimination. The purpose of these meetings is to establish and encourage ways to eliminate barriers, as well as to discourage anything that tends to create division. When problems arise, NOAA BIG will meet with supervisors and employees to develop resolutions. To accomplish this, NOAA BIG will first determine the facts of the dispute and assist in finding a resolution.
NOAA BIG is a 501(c)(3) organization, which means that it is a non profit organization. As with other non profit organizations, NOAA BIG participates in many outreach activities within the organization, throughout the community and for its members.
NOAA Chapter BIG enjoys a highly respected place of honor among the NOAA employee organizations. It is widely acknowledged that NOAA BIG has been a pioneer in employee organizations – often setting the standard and paving the way in the interaction of an employee-organization with its sponsoring agency, in the execution of its goals and objectives, and in its proactive approach to acquiring and maintaining support for key activities and programs. The proof has always been in the pudding. NOAA BIG was one of the first Blacks in Government organizations to become a member of the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) – with an originally assigned number of 7946 and a currently assigned number of 53209.
NOAA BIG, through its dedicated leaders and members will continue its legacy of greatness and its advocacy for NOAA employees. It is relentless in its inspiring mantra – “Don’t wait a minute longer, make a BIG difference!
