Writing Strategies

I want students to enjoy reading and writing. It is important to give choice on writing topics and in how students wish to communicate and present their writing pieces. Choice in both reading and writing sparks motivation and inspires the confidence and energy to keep on reading and writing. I encourage students to write what they know and about topics that are familiar to them.

Students can:

*write thank you notes, letters

*create cards for family members, friends

*write to-do lists, grocery lists

*draw and label pictures

*keep a journal

*staple together sheets of paper and create a book

*create comics

*write emails, texts, tweets, blogs

*use stickers to create a story
