Welcome, November!

"Who's the biggest dog around? Who's the reddest dog in town?"  This will be a fun-filled month as we learn about Norman Bridwell and his famous big red dog, CLIFFORD! Throughout our author study, we will read lots of Clifford books and we will continue to talk about what all living things need to change and grow.

RED will be our special colour of the month.

Our alphabet adventures will continue as we learn VC (vowel-consonant) and CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words, and as we explore the letters Ff, Ii, and Nn. We will practice printing these letters, identifying them by finding objects around us, making their sounds, and combining the letters we’ve learned to make words.

Our interactive Math program will continue to boost our understanding of number and our ability to print numerals and associate the numbers to quantities.  As we continue sorting a variety of objects and making sets to 5, we will further our understanding of the concepts same, fewer, and more.  Look for things to count at home and practice printing numerals up to 5.  We will also do various dice activities to further our understanding of number. Maybe you have games at home that you can play using a dice?  Remember, children learn as they play!

Since November is a month of remembrance, we will talk about why some people choose to wear a poppy and why they remember those that have given their lives so that we may be free.  We will also celebrate World Kindness Day this month, something we strive for daily in our classroom.

It won't be long and we will receive our very first report card in Kindergarten -- yet another 'first' -- so exciting!  When that time comes, I encourage you to share the report card comment with your child, give lots of praise where appropriate and discuss any areas in which they may need to improve.  It is never too early to help your child set goals and take ownership of their learning.

Once again, thank you so much for your support and your continued interest in our classroom.  It really means the world to me and to your children.
