Fall is here and our little Kindergarteners are beginning to settle into their daily routines.
This month, we will continue our Alphabet Adventures as we learn the letters Mm, Ss, Tt, and Pp. As we explore these letters, we will focus on naming each one, printing each letter, learning its sound, and identifying it by finding objects around us. We are learning to print our first name in the grown-up way; initial letter uppercase, remaining letters lowercase. Our Home Reading Program will begin this month. Families, you may help at home by reading to and with your child daily, and encouraging your child to write and draw. Remember, young children learn as they play and their play is their work.
Our Math explorations began in September as we learned about sorting rules and how things are alike and different. Look for ways to sort at home - toys, cutlery, clothes, recycling, etc. This is a perfect way to reinforce what we are learning at school. We also explored geometry and patterns as we learned about 2D shapes and AB patterns. Throughout October, we will further explore these skills and we will focus on numbers 1 to 5, and learn about 3D shapes. Practice printing your numerals and making sets for each number.
Our special colour of the month is ORANGE.
This month, we will participate in our first Scholastic Book Fair, our first skating session, our first Jamarama Day, and many other special 'firsts' at school.
There sure is lots to learn and do in Kindergarten! October will be a very busy month so please refer to the calendar and the memo that was sent home. Please check/empty your child's Buddy Bag nightly. The Buddy Bag should stay in your child’s backpack at all times, even when empty. When students arrive in class each morning, one of their chores is to put their Buddy Bag on their table for their teacher to check.
