HEART WORDS (as we call them) or SIGHT WORDS are high-frequency words that are irregularly spelled, meaning some part of the word must be memorized/learned by heart rather than sounding it out. This month's heart words are attached to your calendar. See suggested games below.

BLENDABLE LETTER SOUNDS BY JACK HARTMANN
This video demonstrates how to pronounce letter sounds when teaching reading. When children are learning to read, they need to blend sounds as they decode. Grownups need to ensure that the sounds they are modeling are sounds that can be blended. Blendable Letter Sounds Song presents each letter sound in a blendable way with the sound and a word association for each letter. Jack demonstrates the blendable sound and the correct mouth formation for each letter sound.
This is our favourite website, especially for our Helper of the Day. It's great because it covers such a wide variety of Reading and Math skills.
IXL - MATH, ENGLISH, & SCIENCE
This is a great website because its skills are organized by grade level and are aligned to the NL Curriculum.
*Originally a Math website, they have now added Language Arts and Science skills.
*Without a subscription, you may use the site for a little each day before it times out.
COSMIC KIDS YOGA - YOGA, MINDFULNESS & RELAXATION
These videos make yoga, mindfulness and relaxation FUN for kids, helping them build their strength, balance and confidence.
GO NOODLE - MOVEMENT & MINDFULNESS
This is a great website because it helps get kids moving with short interactive activities. Desk-side movement helps kids achieve more by keeping them engaged and motivated throughout the day. Designed with K-5 classrooms in mind. We really love the videos by Blazer Fresh.
Most importantly, read to each other daily, play together, and have fun!
