We often have students in K to 6 create props for out school assemblies and in addition get them to create props for their ELA classes during storytelling.

In science, we have students plan, create and design different challenges for them to develop their skills outcomes while attaining the knowledge outcomes.

In grade 4 science it is suggested that students invent an animal which is adapted to an actual or imagined habitat. Animals may be visually represented and presented to classmates. Or they can invent a “super” animal with adaptations that enable it to live in any habitat (i.e., ocean, freshwater, forest, arctic), on the moon, or another planet.

We anticipate using the make-do kits for the students to build their invented animal with an identified adaptation and they present their animals and how the adaptation helps the animal survive.

Outcomes like these are throughout the k to 6 curriculum and these kits would be shared by all teachers for similar projects (i.e. grade 5 science and building a simple machine, or in grade 6 science building a replica Canada Arm)
