Phase Contrast Microscopy

Compared to a bright field microscope, a phase contrast microscope offers us its prowess to view transparent subjects and changes in refractive indices. It is a method whose development earned Dr Fritz Zernike the 1953 Nobel Prize in Physics.

Abha Vishwakarma and I built a phase contrast microscope was built from the parts available to us. It was used to view optical fibres, biological samples, and some liquid phenomena. Since this was built for the first time, the setup is not optimised for its best functioning due to a lack of materials. Hence we have proposed the needful materials in order to achieve better results the next time this experiment is set up.
