Oboes & Bassoons, Bell's Music Shop will be able to take care of many of your basic needs, but there's another valuable resource you should also know about. There is a store in Richardson (a suburb of Dallas) called Bocal Majority that is owned, operated, and run by double reed musicians for double reed musicians. And it's more than just a store. In 2005, they started their first summer Bassoon Camp. In 2009 they added oboes to their camps, and in 2017 they added clarinets as well. Now, they typically have 30 nationwide camps all over the country and online. Bocal Majority helps the double reed community by providing high level information in a positive and uplifting environment. They offer instrument and bocal trials, high level repair, and even lessons. The founder & owner, Jennifer Auerbach, is a teacher and a professional bassoonist. All of the reeds they sell are hand-made (this is way better than the machined reeds that have become common through online stores, amazon.com, etc.). Their prices are competitive, their service is outstanding, and most importantly, they're one of the only double reed specialty shops in the world and they're right in our back yard! You should check them out sometime, and when you need new reeds, we recommend you get them from Bocal Majority.
