If your child has a medical note that prevents them from playing at recess, please make sure that you also inform P.E. and music teachers. Students move a lot in both of these classes and teachers need to know of any limitations.
Students may bring a dry, quick, and healthy snack. Good suggestions are apple slices, carrot sticks, grapes, goldfish, pretzels and granola bars. Please do not send chips, cookies, candy, anything that needs to be peeled, and anything that needs a utensil to eat for your child to have as a snack.
Students may bring a filled water bottle with only clear (unflavored) water. Do not add flavor packets to the water in case of spills. Students may not bring cups with straws. Only water bottles that can securely close will be allowed.
Character Strong
PARENTS, Please watch and follow staff directions in the morning drop off. We need you to pull all the way forward. Please do not stop at the kindergarten doors as you back up traffic. We need to keep everything flowing. We have staff on hand to assist students getting to class.
Here is the link to our Safety Procedures for Afternoon Dismissal.
Please remember to follow our attendance guidelines and keep your child home when they are sick. While we value your child’s learning time in the classroom, help prevent the spread of illness and ensure the health of other students by making sure your child is fever-free for 24 hours before returning to school. Please also talk to your child about healthy habits like frequent hand washing and covering your mouth when coughing.

December 19-January 6: Student Holiday
January 7: 3rd Nine Weeks Begins
There isn't any homework this week. Students are encouraged to read every night and review multiplication, addition, and subtraction facts for automaticity.
This week, students will be learning about how to interpret and comprehend poetry.
Ask your child to explain how poets use figurative language to enhance their poems.
This week, the students will be using what they have learned about poetry (rhyming vs. free verse, narrative, lines, stanzas, onomatopoeia, etc) to write their own poems using these poetic elements.
Ask your child what is the difference between a free verse poem and a ryhming poem, and how does a poet use lines and stanzas to organize their ideas.
Skills Block:
This week, students will continue working with compound sentences. Students will continue working with independent clauses and continue using FANBOYS to connect two complete thoughts.
Ask your child to identify which coordinating conjunction would complete the sentences best.
Dog Man was exhausted, ( for/so ) he was fighting criminals all night.
I did not want to eat my peas, ( yet/nor ) did I want to eat my carrots.
Additionally, have your child practice sharing with you or writing two simple sentences that can be connected to the same thought. Each must have a verb and a noun.
This week, students will learn the standard addition algorithm to solve addition problems. Students will take a CBA covering modules 4-6 on Tuesday, December 9.
Ask your child to explain to you what the rules are for when adding with the algorithm.
This week, we will begin our 5th Topic in Science, which will cover Patterns on Earth. The first experience will focus on Weather and how we measure weather conditions. We will also compare weather from different locations.
Ask your child about how we can measure temperature, wind direction, and precipitation.
This week, students will be taking a break from Social Studies until January!
Ask your child what their favorite topic in Social Studies has been so far.
