The TIME Study

Thank you for helping make the TIME study a success

In 2015- 2017, 349 GP practices in the West Midlands helped the study team with recruitment for the Treatment in Morning vs Evening (TIME) study, enabling them to recruit over 21,000 participants. GP practices in West Midlands recruited 4037 participants, the highest number of all the 15 Clinical Research  Network geographical areas .Without your assistance, this study would not have been possible, and we would like to thank you again for your support in achieving this.

The study aimed to investigate whether evening dosing of usual antihypertensive medication improved major cardiovascular outcomes compared with morning dosing in patients with hypertension. The last participant follow-up was made at the end of March 2021, and the study database was locked in July2022 before analysis.

This large, prospective, randomised study has demonstrated that evening dosing of usual antihypertensive medication was not different from morning dosing in terms of major cardiovascular outcomes. The participants you invited and who consented to participate helped us to develop this important knowledge about high blood pressure treatment. The TIME study results will benefit the many people who take medicines to lower their blood pressure now and in the future.

The TIME study results have now been published in The Lancet. You can access the paper, and a lay summary, from our study homepage.

ARTIC PC

The Antibiotics for lower respiratory tract infection in children presenting in primary care - ARTIC PC trial explored the clinical effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of amoxicillin for uncomplicated lower respiratory tract infections in children both overall and in clinical subgroup.  432 children were randomised to oral amoxicillin or placebo.  Children who were not randomised could participate in a parallel observational study.

The trial concluded that amoxicillin for chest infections in children is unlikely to be effective.  General practitioners should support parents to self-manage at home and give clear communication about when and how to seek medical help if they continue to be concerned.
