PANORAMIC

Supporting Urgent Public Health Research

PANORAMIC is a UK-wide clinical study sponsored by the University of Oxford and funded by the National Institute for Health Research. The purpose of this clinical trial is to find new treatments that help those suffering with COVID-19 at home and in the community get better quicker and without needing to be treated in hospital.

The Clinical Research Network, led by CRN Thames Valley and South Midlands, is supporting the delivery of this trial.  The PRIDES Expert Team have worked closely with the CRN Panoramic Support Team and NHS Digital to support the development of a Population Health Platform to aid patient recruitment.

The Population Health Platform

PRIDES has supported a number of CRN supported Urgent Public Health and Vaccine studies and our national Expert Team have worked closely with NHS Digital to develop a Population Health Platform to support recruitment to the NIHR funded PANORAMIC study. Find out more below.

The Population Health Platform (PHP) is an NHS Digital solution that can be used to identify patients who may be eligible to access treatments through the PANORAMIC study.

Commissioned by NHS England and the Department of Health and Social Care, the Population Health Platform gives GPs access to a list of their patients who have tested positive for COVID-19 and may be eligible for the PANORAMIC study. GPs use this information to make contact with the patient to offer information about taking part in the study.

Benefits to GP Sites

The CRN Panoramic Support Team have summarised in the following paper the potential benefits to GP sites supporting the PANORAMIC study of using the Platform.

Why should GP PANORAMIC practices use NHS Digital Identification platform v1.0

Using the Population Health Platform

Below are two diagrams showing the processes GP Spoke and GP Hub Sites will need to follow to search and code potentially eligible and eligible patients when using the PHP.

Please note accessible text based versions of these flowcharts will be available in due course.

Please visit the NHS Digital website for more details on How to use the Population Health Platform: for PANORAMIC.

The NHS Digital website hosts a wealth of information about the PHP. If you still have any queries once you have reviewed this information please complete the Panoramic PHP Query Form and we will endeavour to get an answer to you within 3 working days.

CRN West Midlands and CRN North East and North Cumbria PANORAMIC searches for use in EMIS and SystmOne GP Systems are also still available via the CRN TVSM PRIDES Sharing Platform.
