20 Hours of Community Service is a graduation requirement for James Logan High School (100 or more for Puente Students) are due April of your senior year. They CANNOT be completed at a private/personal business, whether you get paid or not. They also CANNOT be done helping at home or helping family members with any type of work where there is personal gain.
The purpose of community service is for you to better the community or communities you are part of without any financial or personal gain. This is where you can be an active and important member of those communities and leave a positive impact on society.

Step Up Tutoring is a California based non-profit that provides high-impact tutoring to help close the opportunity gap. We are dedicated to supporting elementary school students from 3rd to 5th grade by pairing adults, including seniors, with students to volunteer their time as virtual math tutors. Our program offers flexibility, allowing volunteers to contribute from home at their convenience, and requires no prior tutoring experience as we provide all necessary training. This setup has proven to be incredibly rewarding for both our tutors and students, fostering meaningful connections and impactful learning experiences.
We have served over 3000 students enrolled with over 100,000+ hours of free tutoring and we have a partnership with over 100 schools including LAUSD and KIPP SoCal. Our mission is to drive student success by providing virtual high-impact tutoring and mentorship to elementary and middle school students in under-resourced communities. We recruit, train, and support mission-driven high-value tutors to provide individualized academic support and boost habits of success. High-impact tutoring is among the most effective educational interventions and can result in 3-15 months of learning gains, larger than 85% of interventions studied. We focus on three key outcomes: improve academic gains, increase academic confidence, and foster positive relationships between students and tutors.
