November 2024
Dear Tiger Family,
We are so proud of our students and their hard work this school year! From academics to extracurriculars, they have truly excelled. Our students’ dedication to their studies is evident, especially in their impressive performance with our new ELA curriculum. We are thrilled to see such growth in their reading, writing, and critical thinking skills. These accomplishments reflect the dedication of our students, families, and staff, and we are excited to continue building on this success together.
Our Student Council has been especially busy supporting various initiatives throughout our school and community. Thanks to their efforts, the Kids Caring for Kids Campaign raised significant funds for St. Jude’s, demonstrating the commitment our students have to making a difference. Additionally, our BETA Club is in full swing, and its members are making a positive impact by visiting nursing homes to deliver homemade cards and by collecting shoes for underdeveloped countries. These activities are not only helping our community and beyond but are also instilling a strong sense of empathy and service in our students.
Finally, we want to thank everyone who participated in our One School, One Book program! We had over 2,300 Paw Prints earned by students who visited local businesses to answer trivia questions from Charlie Bumpers vs. Teacher of the Year. This incredible participation from our students and community made the program a great success. We look forward to celebrating together at the upcoming Thankful for You Breakfasts later this month, where we’ll gather as a school family to show gratitude for each of you. Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to our students and school community.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Witt Mr. Crowder

BETA Club Shoe Drive
The Elementary Beta Club is currently holding a shoe drive which began on Monday, October 21 and continues through December 20th.
How does it work? Check around your home for gently used shoes of any kind that have been outgrown, don’t fit properly, or are no longer in style or season. These can be tennis shoes, sandals, boots, dress shoes, heels, flats, and even cleats! The soles must be intact, and the tops of the shoes must not have rips or holes.
Where do the shoes go? The shoes we collect will help raise funds for the Elementary Beta Club and will be kept out of landfills! They will then be sent to underdeveloped countries where they will be given a new life by people who will clean them up and use them to create business opportunities to support their families. Our club receives $0.40/per pound of shoes that we collect, so the more we collect, the more money we will earn. Our goal is to collect 2,500 pounds of shoes, which is about 100 bags with 25 pairs of shoes in each bag!
Please help us if you can by donating shoes you are no longer wearing and passing the word along to friends, family, and your students. Men’s, women’s and children’s shoes are all accepted. There will be collection boxes in the Junior High, High School, and Board of Education offices.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Lora Sembach, BETA Club Advisor

Academic Excellence! Newton Falls Tiger Pride!
Two exceptional programs from Newton Falls Elementary and Middle School will be showcased at the OSBA Capital Conference on November 10th. Students and teachers will travel to Columbus to present both our One School, One Book program and our Curious Tigers program. This is a tremendous honor for our district, highlighting the innovative approaches our schools take in promoting literacy and curiosity-driven learning. The opportunity to share these initiatives on such a prominent platform is a fantastic experience for our students and a testament to the hard work of our staff and community.
First Grade Trip to Kuchta Farms
First-grade students recently enjoyed an exciting field trip to Kuchta Farms, where they navigated a corn maze, learned all about farm animals, and discovered the process of growing pumpkins. The day was filled with hands-on learning and fun, allowing students to experience the wonders of farm life firsthand. Special thanks to Mrs. Metheny, Miss Granchie, and Mrs. Gregory for planning this wonderful experience for our first graders—making it a memorable and educational day for everyone!
Kids Caring for Kids
Our Kids Caring for Kids Campaign has been a heartwarming success, as our school community came together to raise funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. This initiative supports cancer research and provides essential care and assistance to families facing childhood cancer. Thanks to the generosity and compassion of our students, families, and staff, we’ve raised over $2,351.00 this month to donate to this incredibly worthy cause. This contribution will help advance St. Jude’s mission and make a real difference in the lives of children and families in need.
A special thank you goes to Mrs. Woodley for sponsoring this event, as well as to our dedicated student council members who collected and counted the donations. Under the guidance of Mrs. Thompson, our fourth-grade teacher and student council advisor, they put in hard work and showed the true spirit of service. Tigers have a big heart, and we are immensely grateful for the kindness and commitment shown by everyone involved in this campaign!
Academic Highlights
We are committed to closely monitoring student progress to ensure each child reaches their full potential. This year, we’re using i-Ready diagnostics and personalized lessons to assess and support each student's unique learning journey. The i-Ready diagnostic provides insights into students' strengths and areas for growth in reading and math, allowing us to tailor instruction to meet their individual needs. In addition, students are working closely with their teachers to set individual academic targets, which helps increase student ownership and engagement in their learning process. By setting and working toward their own goals, students are developing a growth mindset and taking an active role in their education.
In English Language Arts (ELA), we’re utilizing high-quality resources such as Fundations and Geodes to further support literacy development. Fundations is designed to strengthen foundational reading and spelling skills, while Geodes provides engaging books that build knowledge, vocabulary, and comprehension by connecting phonics skills with content-rich stories. These resources, along with individualized progress monitors, allow us to continually track each student's development and adjust instruction as needed. To further enhance our efforts, we’re excited to partner with Huntington Tutoring—an Ohio Department of Education and Workforce-approved program—to offer additional small-group reading instruction. With teachers, students, and families all working together, we can provide a robust educational experience that meets every child’s needs. Thank you for being such vital partners in your child’s success!
