Get ready for Sports Day for all Year 7, 8 and 9 learners on Monday 20th March (1 month to go!).
Learners will be competing in their Houses against other learners in their Year group. There will be a variety of team and individual events. All learners will need to be wearing a t-shirt of their House colour (check on Engage if you are not sure). Accessories, fancy dress and face paint are all encouraged.
The events will start at 8:45am and end at approximately 1:20pm. Parents are very much welcome to support the learners from the level 2 walkway and we would love for some parents to join the teachers in a fun relay race at the end.
FAQ for Secondary Learners
1. If my child/ward is ill or injured and they have a PHE lesson that day, what should they do?
Learners must provide an MC from a doctor or an email from a parent to explain why they are unable to take part. Learners are still expected to attend the lesson and get changed into their Nexus PHE clothes and be part of the lesson, for example as an umpire, scorer or completing some video analysis to help provide feedback to their peers.
2. My child/ward said they cannot wear their high top Converse shoes or Vans skate shoes to PHE lessons, is this true? Why not?
Learners should be wearing supportive sports/running shoes to all PHE lessons. This is so that they can perform to the best of their ability and reduce the chance of being injured.
3. My child/ward has their period and doesn’t want to go in the swimming pool.
Learners who are unable to go in the water should bring their Nexus PHE clothes to change into. This means that they can help assist the PHE teacher and swim coaches on the pool side, and if they get splashed by mistake or wet in the rain, they will have their dry uniform to change into.
4. Can my child/ward wear their smart watch to PHE lessons to track their steps?
Learners are asked to remove all of their jewellery including watches to limit the chances of the items being damaged, lost or accidentally hurting themselves or another learner. If a learner would like to wear their smartwatch for fitness reasons, they will need to wear a sweatband over the top to protect their watch and also stop them from being distracted by notifications etc during their lessons. (This is the same answer for learners who are wearing a religious or medical bracelet).
5. My child/ward has 3 PHE lessons a week and also participates in 2 sporting ECAs a week, where can I buy more PHE clothes from so that they have enough clean PHE uniform to wear?
Families can purchase more PHE uniform via the Parent Zone on the website.
6. My child/ward has PHE during their first lesson, why can’t they come to school wearing their PHE clothes?
All learners are expected to wear their normal school uniform to school each day, regardless of what time of the day they have their PHE lesson. If learners arrive wearing their PHE clothes, they often forget to pack their normal uniform to get changed into afterward.
