Dear Parents and Guardians
I hope you have had a good week. I have been busy getting to know our Lead Learners and hearing their ideas on things we can develop in partnership to make Nexus even better. We have teams from all the year groups who look at Wellbeing, Sports, Curriculum, Service and Learner Voice. By creating these platforms, we hope to encourage learners to develop skills and grow as individuals so that they really can support our shared mission of them taking a productive leadership role in a global society. This is very timely as we celebrate Global Goals Week and look at how we can support learners to respect themselves, others and the environment.
Relationships, as you know, are key to our success and by creating open channels for communication in an environment of trust we can ensure our learners know what to do when they face a challenge. The answer is invariably being able to share with someone and not try and cope with everything yourself. Sometimes, the simple act of talking things through and saying things out loud to another person can help. Our teachers help learners reflect on their learning journey and we do hope you have been able to book to meet your child's subject teachers during our virtual Learning Conferences next week. Please join these with your child so that they may share their learning journey and identify their goals with you and the teachers. I hope you will read the rest of the newsletter to see all the opportunities learners are embracing and who we are celebrating this week.
There are many things where we are working together with you - families and guardians, to ensure better outcomes for our learners, for example, reading - as I shared previously, reading is essential for academic success. We also understand that punctuality can be a challenge for a young person. Attendance and punctuality are often part of university and employment references as everyone values members of the community who are reliable. Now that we start our school day with lesson one, all learners should be in class for a prompt 8.20am start. Please help us by ensuring your child or ward is setting off in time to make this a reality.
We all want happy, successful learners so let us work together to support this ambition by sharing common expectations and instilling values that support respect for themselves, others and the environment.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
Best wishes,
Dr Heather

In the past, learners in Years 10-13 taking Business and Economics were able to visit businesses to see real-life application of the concepts learned in class. Since the implementation of Covid-19 restrictions, it has become more difficult to arrange these types of trips. Do you know of any businesses that would allow our learners to visit? Please contact Learning Area Leader for Business and Economics, Tiana Sexton, at sexton.t@nexus.edu.sg
We'd also be interested in speakers from the fields of business or economics that could visit our classes and present on what it is like to work in their industries. Thank you!
