Our music ensembles are always popular and we have managed to navigate the COVID-19 regulations to bring a range of opportunities to our NEXUS learners.
On Mondays, Music Tech Club is run by Mr Amin and Mr Zul. Learners from Year 7 to Year 13 are welcome to join this. So far, they have toured our auditorium, learnt about cables and mic setups. They will soon be moving onto rigging and using the lighting for stage productions.
Wednesday lunchtimes are for vaccinated learners only with our Secondary Choir. Currently, we are limited to 20 learners, however, it is still great to be singing again. The choir is tackling music from Phantom of the Opera, Tangled and songs by the Pentatonix.
We're aiming for a vocal concert in November, so watch this space!
After school on Wednesday, Orchestra has started and the group is so big that we are now holding our rehearsals in the auditorium.
To be inclusive, we are running smaller groups so that winds and brass can still participate and vaccinated and non-vaccinated learners can also be involved.
We have therefore split the orchestra 3.30-4pm into a String group and Windband and then combining vaccinated learners 4-4.30pm with the full orchestra. We will continue to review this as restrictions ease.
Run by our guitar tutor Mr Hiro and IB learners, our guitar group takes place during Thursday lunchtimes. It has been great to involve our bass guitar, electric guitar and acoustic guitar players and we're working on some Daft Punk music to start the year. If you fancy rocking out with us, new members are welcome.
Mr Fordham has restarted our Chamber Choir on Thursday afternoons. This group is for singers who wish to extend their vocal skills through harmonisation, reading music and performing more complex music. For this ensemble, you must be vaccinated.
