Our Secondary Health and Physical Education learners as well as our senior sport scientists were very fortunate to have a visit from Andy Barrow last week. Andy was a triple Paralympian and former captain of the Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby team. He told his story of a life changing injury that occured on the Rugby field when he was just 17. However, it was his attitude towards the things he could control (following the incident) that many learners found inspiration in. I’ve even heard some of the learners quoting him this week. "Attitude is like a T-shirt, you can change it anytime". Have a great weekend.

Qualifying Adventurous Journey group 1: 03 May-04 May
During the first weekend in May, 24 of our Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award participants took part in the Bronze Level Adventurous Journey in the East of Singapore and Pulau Ubin. We left school at 1:30pm, dodging a large storm and headed to the East where near perfect Singapore weather was thankfully waiting for us.
Groups started at different points, navigated to Changi Point ferry terminal and took the small ferry boat to the island. They then continued on their planned routes, enjoying the nature and more relaxed pace of life there, so near yet so far form the hustle of mainland Singapore. They saw monkeys, wild boar, a cobra and even a beautiful Hornbill, which kept watch at our campsite. They camped together in their group, cooked their evening meal and got what sleep they could on the still, sweaty night before a planned, early morning start the following day. They completed the second day of their planned routes, finishing back on the mainland. It was clear that all participants had developed their skills since the first camp, and they confidently followed their routes. Many spoke about how much they enjoyed the experience, especially after returning home for a well earned shower and a good night's sleep!
The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award: Next steps.
Those who took part in May are now planning to present on the purpose of their Adventurous Journey, which must be completed this term as a whole group. They must also submit their personal reflection by the deadline agreed with their Award Leader. They will need to complete the required hours in the other sections of the Award (Skill, Volunteering and Sport) before they can achieve their Award. All this must be done through the app.
The second group will do their Qualifying Adventurous Journey on Saturday 08 June and Sunday 09 June. They will first meet with their Award Leaders in their groups to finalise their preparations.
