An amazing roof raising performance by the Primary Chinese Drumming Team this morning in assembly! Since the Y6 Production in February many of the Y5 and 6 learners have been asking for a Chinese Drumming CCA. This term I trialled the club over 5 lunchtime sessions. Learners were selected for their commitment as we only have 8 drums, so no rehearsals could be missed!
The learners; Ryan, Alex, Chloe, Annabelle, Nelly, Carrie, Finn, Georgie have all made splendid progress over the 5 weeks. We have added actions, sound affected and movement to the routine and have had lots of fun along the way.
The learners have completely led this through inquiry based learning. They watched video's, created their own sounds on the drums, composed rhythmic patterns and rehearsed passionately.
Well done to the first ever Chinese Drumming Team at Nexus! To view the video click here
Many Primary learners participated in this term's Music Recitals's hosted by Aureus Music Academy. Aureus Music Academy work in collaboration with Nexus providing instrumental tuition to many of our learners weekly. As part of the tuition each learner has the opportunity to participate.
Standard was high with learners from all year groups performing an array of music from Classical to Pop, Rock to Traditional World Music. Parents thoroughly enjoyed the evening of uplifting music.
Well done to all that performed.

Nexus are teaming up with ABRSM and Trinity College of Music, working towards hosting music examinations at Nexus in the new academic year. Learners who learn an instrument as part of the Aureus Instrumental lessons have been highlighted, selected and parent informed via email. However if any learner having private lessons outside of school but would be interested to take lessons at school please contact me directly lambert.c@nexus.edu.sg
The Year 6 learners performed a beautiful rendition of Miley Cyrus' 'The Climb' during the Exhibition Gala Presentation on Monday evening. 'The Climb' helped to celebrate the hard work and effort which the learners have put into the PYP Exhibition: challenging themselves to achieve further, breaking goals, keeping on moving and keep on climbing however hard the journey.
Well done the musicians who accompanied; Grace, Olivia, Elizabeth, Iona, Victor and Kian. Plus our soloists Nazeem and Iona for opening the song so sublimely.

Singing Stars, Year 1/2 singing club, have been committing to learning a classic children's choir piece called 'I Can Sing a Rainbow'. At this past Friday assembly, Singing Stars have been invited to perform this short piece on stage. Click here to watch the performance.
About 40 learners have been showing up to every rehearsals on Wednesdays during lunch playtime. We are extremely proud of every single Singing Star for their commitment and confidence to put on an excellent performance!
Just a reminder, Singing Stars is not a CCA and will continue until the end of the year.
In terms 1 and 2 learner joined the Primary Strings or Primary Band. In term 3 we combined these 2 ensembles to form the first ever Primary Orchestra. From ukulele and guitars to saxophone and violins.....anyone who plays an instrument and who can read music confidently is welcome to join. Our youngest members being in years 1 and 2.
The Primary Orchestra performed in both Primary assemblies two fun and exciting pieces and our learners really appreciated learning about the different instruments in our orchestra and seeing a live performance. The Primary orchestra performed an arrangement of 'Any Dream Will Do' from the musical Joseph, and a beginner band version of 'Rock Around the Clock'.
