Dear Parents and Caregivers
Welcome to our new families and welcome back to Term 3 for our current families. I hope you were able to enjoy some quality time together during the recent holiday and that the forthcoming year of the Rabbit brings us all longevity, peace and prosperity.
It has been great to share the start of our Chinese New Year celebrations this week. As a diverse international community we recognise that Lunar New Year is culturally significant for many other parts of our community and we we welcome your input as to how we can share this more widely across our community.
We have launched ourselves into Term 3 with day trips, new UOIs and mini exhibitions. Please take a look at the News from the Year Groups for more information about the start of the term for your child's year.
As we start the new semester and and welcome many new families I would like to take the opportunity to remind all families of our key communication channels. Please make sure that you connect with these various channels so that you can best support your child in their learning journey:
Facebook Page (click here) - a space where we celebrate all that is happening in the Nexus community.
Parent Zone (click here) - a one-stop source to find all the key information you need about life at Nexus. For example, you can view the school calendar and find out more about our CCA, Music and Sport programmes.
SeeSaw App - we offer a ‘window into the classroom’ via the SeeSaw App. This is the regular ongoing communication method we will use to share news and home learning from your child's class. If you need some help to set up the app, please email our IT team.
Every class in our Primary School has a WhatsApp Group. These groups will allow you to build friendships between families in each class. For further information on the WhatsApp Groups, please see the Communication tab.
We also have these fortnightly Newsletters. They are a crucial part of our communication with our whole community. It is where we include information about any upcoming events, our recent happenings and also any important notices. The different sections can be accessed from the menu across the top of the screen (on large screens such as laptops and iPads) or the 'triple bar' icon on the top left (on small screens, e.g. phones).
If you have any concerns about your child please don't hesitate to reach out to their Homeroom Teacher, they are always your first point of contact and will be able to assist you if further support is required.
Many learners (Y3 - Y6) have started to use their ID EZ-Link enabled cards to pay for food in the cafeteria. It is wonderful that we are becoming cashless, however many learner's cards are either not set up to top-up automatically or have no money credit on them. This is leading to delays when buying food. We never allow a learner to go without lunch and a credit note will be passed to them if there is no money on their card. Learner Services will then contact you to pay the balance.
Please take a moment over the long weekend to make sure your child's method of payment is set up how you wish, and that your child understands when you are expecting them to purchase food.
Finally while talking about ID cards - please be aware the turnstiles and electronic security systems are being activated and learners and parents will need their Nexus ID to be able access the school easily. Please make sure your child in (Y3 - Y6) has their ID card at all times and that you have yours if visiting the campus. Please see the Important Notices tab for other significant information.
May I take the opportunity to wish you all Happy Lunar New Year.
