Team Nexus takes recent Triathlons by storm!

The transition area and finish line resembled a muddy swamp but the grey cloudy conditions did nothing to dampen the spirits of Team Nexus on Sunday 5th March.  Once again, we had a fantastic turnout from Team Nexus in the final race of the series, the MetaSprint triathlon, with some great performances from our Primary Learners including Bodhi Gustavsson who won his age group, coming in 2 minutes ahead of the next finisher!  Overall Team Nexus came 3rd in the inter-school Challenge.  It was wonderful to see all of the learners celebrating after they crossed the finish line, enjoying a sense of achievement and that unusual feeling of mud squelching between their toes!  A special thank you to everyone, including parents, who have enthusiastically supported our learners throughout the MetaSprint Series.

Team Nexus was once again well represented at the TriFactor Singapore International Triathlon last Sunday.

Our brave primary learners took on the 150m swim/ 6km bike/1.5km run course at East Coast Park with enthusiasm, despite the hot sun.  There were smiles all round as the learners brought in some great results, including our amazing girls being 2 of only 6 entrants in the girls 9-10 category and 4 Nexus boys finishing in the top 10 of the boys 9-10 category.  Our next event will be the Lions Singapore Aquathlon Inter-school Championships on 6th May - further information and signup details can be found in the 'upcoming events' section of this newsletter.

Mandarin

Last term was a busy time for us, with Lunar New Year celebrations and learning conference. The learners had excellent opportunities to showcase their progress and achievements to their parents and teachers. These events also helped create a supportive learning environment that nurtured the learners' growth and development.

We are delighted to see all the learners back and are ready to dive into the upcoming unit. Please check Seesaw for a more detailed update on each year group. We are looking forward to a successful and exciting term ahead!

French

We had a great Term 3 in French. We thoroughly enjoyed celebrating ‘La Chandeleur’ (Candlemas) in February with our older primary learners. This Catholic, religious holiday is celebrated 40 days after Christmas but also has origins in celebrating the mid point of the harvest. It is time to eat ‘crêpes’ and so we did together in class! Learners asked for their crêpe in French, choosing a filling.

Our older primary learners are becoming more confident to talk and present on various topics such as themselves, other people, their school, hobbies and routines. They are becoming much more independent knowing both how they can further improve their language skills and how to go about this in the classroom and at home.

There was lots going on with our younger learners including designing their own zoo, giving opinions and reasons for their opinions of different sports and activities, talking about our facilities at school, describing what is in our classroom and talking about what we do at school.

Our very youngest learners enjoyed planning a holiday which included packing a suitcase, talking about which method of transport they would take and which activities they would do there and where they would stay.

It was great to see many parents at the learner conferences with their children. Our learning space was a hive of activity and it was great to see some parents learn some French too! The children (as well as some parents) enjoyed taking part in games and activities such as Guess Who, tic-tac-toe, a scavenger hunt, reading and iPad interactive games. However, we were having so much fun that we forgot to take photos!

Please look on Seesaw for an update on what is happening this term in the various classes in French.

Year 6 Exhibition Kickoff - Thursday 20th April

To the wider Nexus Community,

On Thursday 20th, Year 6 held their Exhibition Kickoff Event, and we would like to thank all the parents who were able to attend. It was a fantastic turnout, and we were delighted to see so many of you in the school.

Our MCs did an incredible job, and we would like to extend a big thank you to Mr Paul and the Year 7 learners who took the time to share their experiences.

We also want to remind all parents and community members that you can add your names to our Parent Expert Wall. It will give our learners the opportunity to reach out to members of our community, and just seeing the range of skills and interests among our parent community will be of great benefit and an inspiration. Click here to access the Parent Expert Wall slide.

Thank you again to all parents who were able to attend the Kickoff Event. We look forward to seeing you all again when we celebrate our inquiry at the end of term.

The Year 6 Team!
