Dear Parents and Caregivers
Welcome to Term 3. I hope you all had a lovely break and are looking forward to the busy term ahead. A very warm welcome to the new families that have joined us this term, I hope you are settling well into our Nexus community.
As a reminder to all our families, there are a few key communication tools we use in school to share what is happening in our Nexus community. Please ensure you have connected to these tools:
Facebook Page (click here) - a space where we celebrate all that is happening in the Nexus community.
Parent Zone (click here) - a one-stop source to find all the key information you need about life at Nexus. For example, you can view the school calendar and find out more about our CCA, Music and Sport programmes.
SeeSaw App - we offer a ‘window into the classroom’ via the SeeSaw App. This is the regular ongoing communication method we will use to share news and home learning from your child's class. If you need some help to set up the app, please email our IT team.
Every class in our Primary School has a WhatsApp Group. These groups allow you to build friendships between families in each class. For further information on the WhatsApp Groups, please go to the Communication section.
And of course, our fortnightly Newsletters. In addition to this front page that has our 'live' calendar displayed below, we also have a range of other sections to look out for. These sections can be accessed from the menu across the top of the screen (on large screens such as laptops and iPads) or the 'triple bar' icon on the top left (on small screens, e.g. phones). Please take a look at the other newsletter sections - there is lots of information.
One of the highlights of the first week of term was our primary assembly in the auditorium. Kindergarten shared their learning from their garden and 5B shared their understanding of how the brain works. I am always very proud of how our learners can articulate not only their knowledge, but also the questions they have had, their process of learning, the connections they have made and the skills they have used and developed. During assemblies teacher's also give Learner Profile attribute postcards. If your child receives one of our postcards celebrating their demonstration of a Learner Profile attribute, please take the time to discuss with them what they have been doing. It's a great way to celebrate positive behaviour.
As we welcome new families we are also aware that at this time of year some of you are in process of planning to move on. If you know you will be leaving us at the end of this academic year we will be very sorry to see you go, and humbly request that you complete a withdrawal form (found on the Parent Portal), to enable us to plan appropriately for next year.
Term 4 has seen us welcome some new member of staff in our Primary team. We are delighted to have Ms Pia join us in 2R, Ms Krithika joining our Learning Support team, Ms Avril will be covering for Ms Kathy while she on maternity leave and Ms Indrani will be in 2B to enable Ms Frena to focus on her health. It's not quite a complete goodbye for Ms Frena - learners will still get the chance to see her around school for the next few weeks.
Next week, school is closed on Monday (24 April) to celebrate Hari Raya. I wish all our Muslim families Selamat Hari Raya, maaf zahir dan batin. We will hold our own celebrations on Friday, 28 April. All learners are invited to wear traditional Muslim dress on that day, such as Baju Kurong, Baju Kebaya or Jubah, Kain Samping and Songkok. Or a 'celebration' outfit of their choice.
Enjoy the long weekend and time with your loved ones.
Best wishes
Fiona Lewis
