Carols by Candlelight

We are pleased to announce our annual 'Carols by Candlelight' will take place on Tuesday, 12 December. We will be holding the same performance twice in the Nexus Auditorium during the NPG Christmas Fair. The performances will be at 5pm and again at 7pm.

Learners who participate in the Secondary School Orchestra, Secondary Choir, Secondary Chamber Choir and Primary Choir will lead the performances and congregational carols. There will then be a short break for the performers to refresh and eat between the two concerts. Entrance to the auditorium will be by advanced registration of tickets only. You will receive an email in the coming weeks to register for your tickets. Learners performing do not need a ticket.

We invite all members of the Nexus community to join us in what will be a wonderful evening filled with festive treats, Santa hats, jingle bells and lots of carolling together!

All learners are expected to attend each rehearsal in preparation for the event.

Free Trial Instrumental Lessons

The Instrumental Petting Zoo towards the end of term was a huge success. The learners in our Primary school were exposed to an array of instruments each lunchtime where they were able to see, touch, feel and play. The learners were very excited to have this opportunity and many of them expressed an interest to have a 'free trial' instrument lesson as a follow up. Y2-6 tried all of the instruments whilst Y1 learner had a demonstration of the string instruments in the Y1 pod and then got to play!

Nexus International School works alongside Aureus Music Academy where we have a team of highly experienced instrumental teachers who teach within our school throughout the week. Aureus Academy is Singapore's best music school with over 3000 learners and 75 full-time teachers which has Bachelor, Master's and Doctoral Degree's in music from prestigious universities and music conservatories. Nexus is extremely lucky to have such a relationship with Aureus Academy and to be able to offer our learners an outstanding musical instrument programme.

Lessons are offered on the trumpet, trombone, saxophone, flute, clarinet, violin, viola, cello, guitar, bass guitar, piano, vocals and drum kit. These take place during school time including break, lunch and after school. Weekly rotation of lessons ensures learners do not miss academic lessons. Learners can opt for individual lessons or duo lessons and choose from a 30 minute, 40 minute or 60 minutes lesson.

Aureus Academy offer a free trial lesson on your child's instrument of choice, or multiple free trial lessons if they are unsure which instrument they maybe interested in.

To organise a free trial lesson please feel free to contact me at lambert.c@nexus.edu.sg. Likewise if you wish to discuss your child in regards to our instrumental programme do not hesitate to contact me.

Primary Assemblies and other Performance Opportunities for Nexus Learners

During our Primary Assemblies we are promoting creativity and performance. Assemblies are the perfect informal performance platform for Nexus musicians to showcase their learning and share their experiences with their peers. Each week the music teachers have been organising performances in assembly which showcases the music learning from within the classroom, provides a performing platform for our Primary music ensembles or provides individuals with the chance to perform on their instruments.

So far this year we have enjoyed the Primary Open Mic Soloist Performers, the Primary String Group, Primary Band, Primary Choir and the Primary Ukulele Group. The performances have been very well received by the audience and have inspired many young learners and musicians to want to participate in the future.

We have also reintroduced whole year group or school singing. The Y1 and 2's performed 'Happy Deepwali'. Nursery and Kindigarten sang 'There's a Spider on the Floor' and Y3-6 performed 'Seasons of Love' and 'Feeling Groovy'

If you are interested in your child joining a music club and participating in these performances, sign up for Music Ensembles and Clubs will stat again in January 2018.

Also if your child would be interested to perform a solo, please contact me directly at lambert.c@nexus.edu.sg or ask your child to come and see me.
