All learners are invited to dress up for Halloween on Friday, 29 October. We recognise that with the shifting restrictions, many children may not be able to go trick or treating so we thought we would once again bring the dressing-up back to school!
When choosing costumes, please be mindful that we have young learners who may be frightened by the costumes. We seek your understanding to refrain from choosing a costume that is too graphic and frightening.
On Tuesday, 2 November, we will be celebrating Deepavali - Festival of Lights, with our Hindu families.
All learners are invited to wear traditional Hindu or Indian dress for the day. Alternatively, children can wear their school uniform.
We had previously advised that in late September, a randomly selected sample of Year 4, 5, 6 and 7 learners would participate in the ACER ISA assessments. The International Schools’ Assessment (ISA) is a high-quality assessment used by international schools and schools with an international focus to monitor learner performance over time and to confirm that the school's internal assessments are aligned with international expectations of performance.
The ISA supports Nexus to compare attainment in our Primary School against other schools worldwide as part of our quality assurance processes. ACER has gained invaluable experience in developing assessments that are culturally and educationally appropriate for learners from many language and educational backgrounds. The ISA is based on the internationally endorsed frameworks for the OECD’s Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA).
The ISA provides:
an external evaluation of core skills in mathematical literacy and reading that allows us to evaluate the reliability of our internal assessments.
a reliable external tool that helps us reflect and refine the quality of our Nexus curriculum.
a detailed set of reports summarising our school’s results and comparative data that allow us to easily identify areas of strength or weakness and trends over time.
comparisons of learner cohorts with other participating learner cohorts in the same year group. This provides a means for us to monitor cohort performance against international expectations.
Due to Off-Campus Learning these assessments will now run during the first week of term 2.
We will share the main findings in January 2022 when the data is fully analysed against all the other participating schools.
The Green Guardians CCA is planning to take action through redeveloping some of the spaces around school, and adding greenery and plants to our environment. The papaya seedlings which many learners planted during our Earth Week last year are now ready to be repotted and added to some of the green spaces around the canteen and play areas. So now, we need your help!
If you have any half empty bags of soil which you need to get rid of or stacks of old pots in a corner at your home, the Green guardians would like to recycle them for you. During the first week of Term 2, we will be collecting any unused items that you can bring in so that we can get started on our project. See the poster for more items which you may be able to donate.
We will share our progress and maybe you will even be sampling some of the edibles in the school lunches soon! Watch this space!
