Nursery
It has been a successful term in Nursery. The children have shown interest, enthusiasm and curiosity in their learning and it has been a pleasure to observe such high levels of involvement in their play. Many friendships have been formed and the children have shown how they can work collaboratively within a class community.
We have observed lots of responsible learners and the children have shown how they can look after the classroom environment and each other. They have demonstrated how they can be kind, caring and they have shown empathy to their friends.
We are so proud of the Nursery children and we have been amazed at their thirst and energy for learning. We look forward to seeing you all next term in school. Have a relaxing break!
Kindergarten
A fabulous term in Kindergarten draws to a close. We have really enjoyed taking time to get to know our learners, find out what they are interested in and to build relationships with each individual. We have established ourselves in our individual classes where we work together to achieve common goals. The independence of our learners has grown immensely. We have watched connections grow in the class and have seen some lovely friendships starting too. We look forward to continuing our learning journey with all of the boys and girls in Kindergarten after the October Holidays.
The learners have taken to the heightened safe management measures like ducks to water. We have been so proud of how they have handled the guidelines and eased into groups of two and structured play-packs with their buddies. Not the end of the term we were hoping for, but nonetheless, Year 1 has ended the term on a high note.
With learners reaching some of their self management flower goals, finishing the UOI - all about me, they are now aware of being able to make good choices based on their feelings and use a variety of strategies to help calm their busy minds. It has been a pleasure to watch the learners grow with confidence and independence over the term. We wish them a fantastic term break and look forward to seeing everyone back on campus for lots of fun investigations and inquiries for Term 2.
Last week, we started our new Unit of Inquiry "Lifestyle choices affect health" where we met Ogden, an ogre who is looking without much success for a way to improve his heath. Thankfully, our Year 2 learners were up to the challenge of helping Ogden and have done a brilliant job of designing activities for him to try using art materials, junk modelling, PlayDoh and Lego. They wrote letters to Ogden inviting him to join them in their activity over the October holiday and explained why it would be beneficial for his health.
Term 1 has flown by and we are so impressed with how far the Year 2 learners have come in such a short time. They have grown in independence and have shown terrific self-management skills in navigating their daily timetable and organising themselves for their lessons. We loved watching how they applied these skills at home when faced with the challenge of off-campus learning this week.
We would like to say a huge thank you to parents and family members for all your help and support in making this term, and this week especially, so successful. We can't wait to see the learners back in class after the holiday!
Year 3 finished this term by exploring art and culture from around the world. The learners were exposed to a variety of art and started to discover how art can connect to culture. They were busy researching the elements of culture such as food, celebrations, beliefs, clothing, languages and music from their home culture(s). We are looking forward to exploring this further when we return to school after the break.
A huge kudos to the Year 3 learners as the Year 3 teaching team has once again been amazed at how adaptable and resilient the learners are. With the quick change to online learning, Year 3s showed their excellent self management skills and independence by following their timetable, logging onto Google Meets and completing the activities given. It was not the end of term we were hoping for but they should all be proud of their efforts both on and off campus this term.
As we come to the end of our first term, Year 4 learners have been reflecting and celebrating their learning. Here are just a few comments from our learners.
"I loved reading news reports as I think it is really interesting to find out what is going on in other countries."
"I've really enjoyed Art this term as we have used clay to make models."
"New people have joined our class this term and I have enjoyed making new friends."
"I love design so I have loved making masks and designing posters."
"I went on a trip with my family to see a local waterway as part of our UOI. I learned a lot and had a great time."
"I enjoyed all the experiments and I'm now working on a desalination experiment at home."
" I enjoyed our digital skills lessons with Mr. Ed because we help each other and learn about new apps to present our ideas."
There were many more highlights including writing news reports, researching their own independent inquiries about water related issues; growing plants; and becoming more independent which reflected the wide range of interests and learning styles. Year 4, it has been a pleasure to see you develop your skills, understanding and self-management over the term. You have adapted to different situations and shown us the all-important desire to learn both at school and at home.
Firstly, a big well done to all of Year 5 for your commitment and engagement in learning and life at school this term. Everyday, there has been so many successes and celebrations. A highlight would be our 'conflict' i-movies where learners demonstrated their understanding of strategies they could use to resolve conflict. Learners know that to maintain peace, they can use the 3 C's - Compassion, Communication and Compromise, to solve problems or conflicts that they may face.
Learning conferences were a fantastic opportunity for reflection and collaboration. Our teachers always enjoy meeting families and sharing your child's celebrations, progress and future goals. These really do highlight the growth and achievement of every learner.
We started our term by meeting online and we will finish in the same way. We are grateful for the time in between where we have been able to be on campus. Thank you to our learners for being so flexible as you adapt yet again. Thank you to our families for your ongoing support during these times of challenge and change. There are many examples of learning from this week on Showbie and Seesaw. We hope you enjoy viewing these with your children.
From our Year 5 team, we wish you a restful holiday break and look forward to another action-packed term ahead.
What a whirlwind this term has been. Starting and finishing with Home-based Learning, one might think it was tough for us. Challenging certainly, however, everyone in Year 6 really came together to develop a strong sense of community. There were smiles, laughs and personal achievements - too many to name.
The thing which made the teachers most proud was how all of the learners showed their care and consideration for others. We got through so much together, and look forward to next term which will bring on a new set of challenges. Next term, we'll explore all of the different ways people can express themselves. One of our most anticipated events, the Year 6 Nexus Film Festival, will be upon us. Over four weeks, learners will write, direct, film and edit their own stories. It is sure to be something to remember.
Rest up learners. Practise the things you need to, such as speedy number facts or a little bit of free writing. Don't forget to take action as well. Enjoy time with your families. Then, get ready to start it all again in two weeks time.
