The stars and directors were out on Thursday night along with the lucky starstruck parents as we held the Year 6 Nexus Film Festival 2019.
The red carpet was alive and buzzing as the flash of the cameras showed everyone in their best dress.
The audience was treated to a huge variety of films as we celebrated four weeks of scripting, storyboarding, filming and editing, showcasing a range of different movies from horror, comedy, drama and documentaries.
Thanks to all of the people who supported the event including parents, student services, marketing, facilities and the teaching staff.
The learners are sure to take the experiences from this event forward in their future learning.
This years Year 3 - 6 Inter-house Cross Country was unfortunately delayed by the haze. But much to everyone's delight we did manage to get an event in before the end of term right here at Nexus. It was the first opportunity for some of our Year 3 learners to participate in such an event and they loved it! Every participant earned points for their house, which meant the support from one another was immense.
Congratulations to Angin (Yellow) House for taking out the honours, just ahead of Api (Red) House by a small 50 point margin. That currently leaves Tanah (Green) House and Ayer (Blue) battling it out for third. However, as we know it is very early in the academic year and there are still many more house events to come which means the competition is very much alive and the cup is still anyones to grab.
House Points Total:
2nd - Api (Red) House 2470 points
3rd - Tanah (Green) House 2000 points
4th - Ayer (Blue) House 1450 points
A special mention must also go to our top runners on the day who earned maximum points for their house with some sensational races.

To support our unit of inquiry, ‘How We Organise Ourselves’, Year 5 visited Parliament House yesterday. Learners participated in a tour of the parliament building and heard about the procedures of the Singapore Government and Parliamentary system. From the viewing platforms we were able to see into the Parliamentary Chamber where the government makes important decisions. We found out that the Parliaments role is made of three parts: law-making, financial control and asking questions that help the government to reflect on their actions.
Before the half term, some children in Years 2 and 6 had been asked to donate stationery and books. Over the October break Jacob and Noah had the opportunity to visit a Balinese School on a cycling tour with 'Bali by Pedals'., where they delivered these wonderful resources that had been donated from their friends in Year 2 and 5. The school had 40 happy learners from Years 1 to 6. We sang songs with them and had a tour around their classrooms. School life is very different there. The teachers use blackboards and chalk and the children sit at very traditional individual desks. Jacob and Noah really enjoyed their visit and are grateful for everyone's contributions which are now forming the basis of a new school library!
If you are in Bali and would like to make your own visit to the school then we can heartily recommend the 'Bali by Pedals' tour which rides through the Jatiluwih rice terraces, villages and ends near the school.
On the last Friday of Term 1, our Nursery learners invited their families to join them for a morning of learning and fun. We ended our Unit of Inquiry on Relationships with a shared picnic, eating fruit kebabs that we had made with our parents, brothers and sisters. We also made some colourful necklaces and decorated clay pots that we had lovingly made to gift to someone special. It was a wonderful morning!
