Primary School Learning Conferences

On Friday, 2 February 2018 the Primary School will be CLOSED to allow for the Primary School Learning Conferences to take place.

Learning Conferences are formal sessions for parents that are, in the main, led by the learners themselves. Our teachers will have guided and prepared your children for this experience. The emphasis is on the discussion between you and your child around their learning journey. You can find out full details of the day by clicking here. You can book your starting time through the Parent Portal. Bookings will close Monday, 29 January at noon. A Learning Conference session takes approximately 60 minutes for each child so please book accordingly. If you have more than one child, you may wish to attend school with one child at a time so that you can fully focus on their learning journey. We also strongly recommend that younger siblings do not attend.

Prior to the Learning Conferences, you will find it useful to have read your child’s Semester 1 Learning Summary that was issued in December via the parent portal.

Due to the Primary Conferences only the following CCAs will run on that day: Geo-Lego, World Scholar’s Cup, Batik Club, Advanced Science,, Gymnastics, Boom, Bang, Fizz Fun Science and Hip Hop. All other CCAs will be cancelled.

For children involved in Friday ECAs (Sport Teams), team managers will provide details of any matches that may be taking place.

Overview of CCAs, Sports, Music, Mother Tongue and Swimming Programmes

We would like to take this opportunity to recap how the activities are organised at Nexus, and also let you know how you/your child can get involved; especially if you are new to the school. Our Mother Tongue and Music Ensembles (sign up required soon) run in term blocks and the ACSIS sports and CCA programmes work across three seasons per academic year. Our Swimming squads train throughout the year.

Music Ensembles

Music ensembles start on Monday, 22 January. A full list of available ensembles and details of how to sign up via the CCA portal will be emailed to you by the end of this week. It is important that you/your child (from Year 5 upwards) can log onto the CCA portal to make Music Ensemble choices. If you have any problems logging on please contact student services who will be able to assist you. Contact Clare Lambert if you have any questions about the ensembles or contact Aureus regarding individual music lessons. (Please note instrumental lessons have already started, however you can still sign up for lessons at any point throughout the year.)

Mother Tongue

There are no mother tongue lessons this week, and all classes start week beginning Monday, 15 January 2018. Please contact Andy Jefferson if you would like your son or daughter to join a mother tongue class or should you require more information about our programme.

We are now in 4 week of the Season 2 CCA programme. Season 3 starts on Monday, 12 March 2018 and sign ups will start in late February. If you would like to join a current CCA, please take a look at the activities we provide and contact Stephanie Hughes. Please note some CCAs may be full.

Due to Primary Conferences on Friday, 2 February only the following CCAs will run:

Geo-Lego, World Scholar’s Cup, Batik Club, Advanced Science,, Gymnastics, Boom, Bang, Fizz Fun Science and Hip Hop. All other CCAs will be cancelled.

ACSIS (Athletic Conference of Singapore International Schools) Season 2 Sport is well under way, but if you would like to join an ACSIS sport team, please contact Bevan Moriarty. ACSIS Season 2 ends on Saturday, 10 February. Sign up period for ACSIS Season 3 will commence early February.

Swimming trials took place at the start of the academic year, however if you are new to the school and have an interest in joining a squad then contact Larisa Mogutova. There are no more scheduled trials, but the coaches can advise you about the squads or swimming CCAs you/your child can join.

The CCA programme booklet, that can be found in the parents zone on the school website, contains the CCA timetable along with details of how to pay or how to book the CCA Bus. It is a good source of information for new parents and learners.
