"Can't you just sit down and finish this?"
Sounds familiar? It can be quite a challenge to have young children focusing on learning at home and a lack of concentration skills can impact other aspects of everyday life.
It is possible to help your child focus on a task and increase concentration skills over a period of time.
Here are 3 strategies for you to try:
Play focus games and exercises: Since children learn through play, you can train and strengthen your child's ability to focus through concentration games like "Uno", Spot-the-Difference pictures, jigsaw puzzles.
Sequencing: There is a strong link between sequencing and concentrating. Putting things in alphabetical order or following recipes are activities great for children who have concentration activities.
Divide bigger tasks into smaller ones: When tasks are broken down into smaller ones, children will feel the sense of accomplishment faster and this will stimulate motivation to continue and do more.
Concentration is a skill that can be built through consistent practice. Focus on big and small wins, help your child realise that they are capable of being focused in task completion.
