A reminder to all our families, there are a few key communication tools we use in school to share what is happening in our Nexus community. Please ensure you have connected to these tools:
Facebook Page (click here) - a space where we celebrate all that is happening in the Nexus community.
Parent Zone (click here) - a one-stop source to find all the key information you need about life at Nexus. For example, you can view the school calendar and find out more about our CCA, Music and Sport programmes.
SeeSaw App - we offer a ‘window into the classroom’ via the SeeSaw App. This is the regular ongoing communication method we will use to share news and home learning from your child's class. If you need some help to set up the app, please email our IT team.
Every class in our Primary School has a WhatsApp Group. These groups will allow you to build friendships between families in each class. For further information on the WhatsApp Groups, please contact Learner Services learnerservices@nexus.edu.sg
And of course, our fortnightly Newsletters are always full of exciting news. The front page has our 'live' calendar displayed, and there is also a range of other sections to look out for. These sections can be accessed from the menu across the top of the screen (on large screens such as laptops and iPads) or the 'triple bar' icon on the top left (on small screens, e.g. phones). If you are reading this, you've probably already discovered this menu!
Our lost property is starting to build up! If your child has lost or misplaced anything, please remind them to take a look at the lost property located opposite Learner Services.
Please label all your child's belongings... hats, water bottles, lunch boxes, bags, uniform and HPE/swim kits. Many children have the same or similar items and it is easy for them to lose things. If everything is labelled, it makes it much easier for items to be returned to their owners. Please may I also ask families to regularly check at home to see if anything has been taken home in error. If so, please send the items back to school and we will return them to the rightful owners.
During these extraordinary times, we understand that some learners may be prohibited from joining us on-site in school due to enforced Stay Home Notices (SHNs) or chronic medical conditions that dictate that they cannot safely mix with the general public. At the start of Term 1, we created an Off Campus Learning (OCL) programme for such learners. The programme, administered by Steve Gallego, utilises special OCL SeeSaw groups to provide daily activities to learners that are designed to achieve similar objectives to those that the learners on-site are covering.
Learners are able to submit work online, which is duly assessed and feedback is then provided via SeeSaw. From time to time, live lessons are organised according to need. If your child is absent due to an enforced SHN or chronic illness, please advise Learner Services who will make arrangements for your child to be added to the programme.
We also note that there may be other learners absent due to concerns about the current COVID infection rate, or because they are serving SHNs at home or in a hotel after returning from abroad. While the school strictly follows all current safety protocols and has been deemed safe, and while we do not authorise absence for holidays or family visits during term time, we do acknowledge that these are extraordinary moments.
We have prepared a special resource pack for families that elect to keep their children at home, or elect to travel during this period and may/may not need to quarantine on return. If your child will be absent in such circumstances, please inform Learner Services in advance and the pack can be provided.
We still have learners whose SafeEntry tokens are not working. Please check the token is still working by looking to see if a light flashes on every minute. If the token does not have a light, you can exchange it for a working one via a vending machine at most Community Centres. The school's safe-entry check-in process is significantly delayed when we are unable to use Bluetooth technology with tokens.
We enjoy celebrating children's birthdays at school. Many families like to bring in a sweet treat for the learners to share. Unfortunately, due to the current restrictions, we are unable to allow families to bring treats from home.
As an alternative, families can purchase cupcakes from Victus - our in-school catering team. These are made on-site following the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) standards and delivered directly to class. If you would like to consider this option, please contact the Victus team. Their details are on the Parent Zone of our website.
Please may we remind all families that at school learners are expected to wear masks at all times (except when involved in sports or eating/drinking).
We are noticing that a number of learners have masks that do not fit securely. This is particularly in the case of the reusable masks, where the elastic ear straps or the wire nose bridge become loose over time.
This weekend, please check that your child's masks fit securely and remind them of the importance of wearing their masks properly at all times.
