The Primary Inter-house Athletics Sports/Track and Field competitions kicked off on Tuesday with our Year 3 - 6 learners enjoying a hot and humid day at Choa Chu Kang Stadium. For our Year 3 learners, it was their first opportunity to compete in a specialised track and field stadium and they definitely rose to the occasion. There were a number of traditional and developmental track and field events, as well as some fun activities and team challenges which were a real hit on the day. Every time someone participated in an event, they earned points for their house. The day culminated with the 60/80 metre finals which was a great way to make some noise for our house representatives.
It was then Nursery and Kindergarten learners' turn to take the stage on Wednesday. There was so much excitement, and in fact the learners became even louder while they were running, jumping and throwing their way around our field. The events that created the most excitement seemed to be the ‘40m Sprint’, the ‘Kangaroo Jump’ and of course the ‘Parachute Popcorn’!
Years 1 and 2 learners then followed up in the afternoon. The school field was a sea of colour and noise for the whole afternoon. The learners were involved in a rotation in which they took part in a wide range of developmental athletic sports activities as well as some of our favourite fun events such as Tug ‘o’ War, that we love to have at every house day. The house spirit was immense: the running, throwing, jumping and cheering that was going on was enough to get anyone excited!
A special thank you to our Year 6 and 10 learners who helped to marshall and officiate the Primary school events over the two days. House Cup results will be presented in one of the upcoming assemblies before they are published to the public. In the meantime there are plenty of photos of the event on the schools facebook page to whet your appetite. Visit the 'Sports &CCA News' from many photos of all three events. Congratulations to everyone for their efforts, we look forward to you bringing the same energy and enthusiasm to the Inter-house Swim Galas in Term 4.

On 21st February 2018, our Year 5 learners travelled to the LooLa Adventure Resort on Bintan Island, Indonesia for their 3 day residential camp.
During our time at LooLa, the learners experienced boom-netting, rock climbing, the flying fox, kayaking, sky walking, coconut tree climbing, pizza making, roasting marshmallows around a campfire and a marine walk to learn more about the sea life.
An important focus of our trip was the service project that we undertook. It involved going to four families and helping them build a water garden that would provide each family with a continuous supply of safe drinking water. The learners worked hard, carrying out the manual labour required to complete each garden. It was also a wonderful opportunity to meet and interact with people from the local community.
It was great to see cooperation and enthusiasm in action as the learners participated in each of the challenging activities. Well done Year 5 learners!
The Year 4 learners did an amazing job on Friday to convince their investors, otherwise known as their parents, to contribute a small sum of money to the development of a product or service. There was a real buzz whilst circling the D2 pod during the morning - as the learners put forward their best pitch - leaving their investors (parents) impressed with the vast array of products and services, many of which share a direct correlation to our previous History, Wellbeing and Fashion Units of Inquiry.
It has been an exciting three weeks in Phase 1 as we have patiently waited for 7 chicken eggs to hatch inside of an incubator. We have talked about the development of the chicken foetus and learnt that the growing chick is nourished by the albumen inside of the egg. We have also discovered that the chick uses an 'egg tooth' to break the shell of the egg after 21 days. The first egg hatched on day 20, which is called 'early pipping' and we named the chick 'Nexus'. One more hatched on day 20 and four others hatched as expected on day 21. The final egg hatched late on day 22. We are yet to name the rest of the brood, as we would like to see their personalities develop first. We have been amazed by their rapid growth, they already have feathered wings and strong legs. We have been learning about their needs and discovered that they eat a lot and need to have their bedding changed every day! Pop into the Phase 1 pod if you would like to visit our feathered friends.
Our Nursery learners had an amazing morning sharing their knowledge on our current UOI. We began in our 'chicken room', singing a variety of songs with an animal focus, where voice and action came to life! The children then enjoyed celebrating their learning throughout Nursery with animal observational drawings, creating animal habitats, ordering the life cycle of a chicken and many more exciting engagements . Thank you to all of the parents and caregivers who came to share the Mini Exhibition with us. Please check the Hub for all of the fantastic photos taken throughout the morning.
Our Kindergarten learners had a wonderful time exploring more about plants at Bollywood Veggies. We began our morning with a tour of the farm looking at the various botanical life such as banana trees, bamboo trees and sugarcane crops. Some of our learners were being wonderful risk-takers tasting raw banana flowers and butterfly pea flowers. The highlight of the trip was paddy planting! Our learners thoroughly enjoyed getting messy, stepping into the mud and planting rice with enthusiasm. To end our visit, we were treated to delicious banana bread made from bananas grown at the premises which was a hit with the learners. It was a great opportunity for them to celebrate all their learning and extend their understanding about plants.
