We offer our Australian learners the opportunity to sit the Australian National Assessment Program for Literacy And Numeracy (NAPLAN). NAPLAN is an annual assessment for all students in Years 3 and 5 in Australian schools. The tests cover skills in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy. The assessments are undertaken every year in May and are useful if you are expecting your child to re-enter the Australian school system in the next twelve months. The cost of sitting the assessment will be $100 per child.
Please note that Nexus’ curriculum does not link to these assessments and we will not teach towards these tests, but we do hope that they will provide parents with useful assessment data about their child if you are intending to return to the Australian school system. We do not recommend that your child sit these tests otherwise. They will NOT be an accurate measure of your child’s attainment as the IB PYP curriculum covers aspects of learning at different ages and in different ways. However, in the last 3 years that we have offered this assessment our overall results in Literacy and Numeracy have significantly exceeded the Australian National Average, with many aspects being in the top 25% of schools.
For more information on NAPLAN and their assessments you may visit their website http://www.nap.edu.au/. If you would like to enter your child for the assessment please fill out the this Google form and make payment to the cashier by 9 March 2018. If you require any further information, please contact Erin Torres (torres.e@nexus.edu.sg).
