During my term as Editor-in-Chief, I organized The Newtonite's instagram. Throughout my volume, we revamped the instagram and put it to use in an effective way, gaining many followers and professionalizing our photos, graphics and captions.Â
Our social media page covered the teacher's strike in our school district, beating professional news sources with important information and quality photos.
We began using our instagram to update viewers on live sports games. This allowed us to be a more dynamic paper, recapping and featuring games as well as being a source of live news in the immediate aftermath of big games.
At the Medill Cherubs program this summer, I attended lectures from professional journalists in which we analyzed breaking news tweets from various organizations and rehearsed with our own.
The Newtonite is both a print and online newspaper. This means that running the paper also requires the technical ability to run a website. In building our website for the new volume, we focused on highlighting certain stories and organizing the pages to maximize the number of stories viewers could see. These attempts increased our viewership and reader retention.
