I have loved taking photos since my grandmother gifted me her old camera when I was in middle school. I spent the Coronavirus pandemic building my skills. Since I began working in journalism, I have put my skills to work in telling stories. Photos I have taken have been published in The Newtonite, The Newton Beacon, The Evanston Roundtable and The Daily Northwestern.
Over the summer, at the Medill Cherubs program, I learned new photography skills and put them to work at a number of events, including the Evanston July Fourth Parade. This photo was selected as a top photo from the event.
I have published numerous photos in The Newtonite, my school newspaper, and The Newton Beacon, a local newspaper for which I have worked as a sports reporter. This photo was taken to accompany a story about the Unified Track team.
I was not able to play either of my senior sports seasons due to a knee injury. So, I began to take photos of my teams to use both in sports stories and for personal use. This new form of photography was a challenge, dealing with motion, odd lighting, and quick changes in composition, but I have improved with each attempt.
This photo was published in the Daily Northwestern as part of their Fourth of July coverage. I took it at the Evanston parade during the Medill Cherubs program.
