About Music in 3rd Grade:
3rd Graders have General Music class once a week for 45 minutes.
In 3rd Grade, students learn how to play the recorder:
Every 3rd grade student is given a recorder and recorder book.
Through recorder instruction students learn how to read music notation and articulation marks. This knowledge is valuable as students choose to begin instrumental instruction in 4th grade.

Recorder Practice - 5-10 minutes each day!
During Music class, 3rd Graders are:
Learning and performing folk dances from around the world, playing musical circle games, and singing rounds.
Learning to play the mallet instruments (xylophone, metallophone, glockenspiel)
Learning to read and write music
Learning about the Instruments of the Orchestra
