1st Grade

About Music in 1st Grade: 

• 1st Graders have General Music class once a week for 45 minutes. In these classes, students are: 

  • • distinguishing between high and low

    • determining the difference between forte (loud) and piano (soft) (dynamics)

    • distinguishing between fast and slow tempo

    • keeping a steady beat on their bodies as well as classroom instruments

    • using their head singing voice to sing by themselves and with others

    • Reading quarter note and eight note rhythms using Gordon syllables in 2/4 time
