About Music in 2nd Grade:
2nd Graders have General Music class once a week for 45 minutes. In these classes, students are:
connecting their knowledge of musical repertoire with written music notation.
creating small melody and rhythm compositions. The songs students learned in Kindergarten and 1st grade, they are now able to create in musical notation.
Performing a number of singing and dancing games throughout the year.
Singing by themselves and with others, in unison and in harmony (in rounds)
Playing classroom percussion instruments.
Learning how to read notes on the treble clef staff to prepare for 3rd grade recorder.
Learning about the musical cultures of Mexico, China and Ghana through song and dance.
