Ms. Harris grew up in a small town in Southeastern Vermont. When Ms. Harris was a kid, she spent a lot of time reading. You could usually find her curled up in her bunkbed, so deep in a book that only the word "ice cream" could get her attention. She spent a lot of time outside playing sports, biking, XC skiing, and exploring the woods near her house. Ms. Harris went to an arts focused high school on a working farm. That meant she had to milk cows in order to graduate!
Following high school, Ms. Harris attended Smith College in Northampton, MA. She studied education, Spanish, and lived abroad in Spain. She also played lacrosse and club soccer. After college, Ms. Harris worked at Berkshire Country Day School and traveled the South Pacific as a tutor. She enjoyed bungee jumping, hang gliding and her first time (and probably last) Zorbing. During vacations, she likes to run, hike, and travel. Her favorite adventures so far were working on a chocolate farm in Costa Rica, biking cross-country in 2011, and hiking on a glacier in Alaska.
Ms. Harris taught 3rd and 5th grades at the Advent School in Boston for five years before pursuing an M.E.d as a reading specialist at Boston College. Following graduate school, Ms. Harris began teaching 5th grade at Burr.
Ms. Harris enjoys the questions, humor, and creative ideas that make fifth graders awesome. She still loves to curl up with a good book whenever she can (and still gets distracted by ice cream). If you have any book recommendations or questions, send her an email at:
