Advisory

Advisory meets for an 18 minute period every morning with the exception of Wednesday when it is a  5 minute check-in. All students are assigned to an advisory in 6th grade and they stay in this advisory for their time at Bigelow.  Groups are 10-15 same grade students with an advisor and co-advisor.  Advisory is a time in which students are encouraged to make connections with peers and adults, to reflect on themselves and the world around them, and to learn and practice social and emotional wellness skills that will serve them throughout their lifetime.    Students do this through group conversations, activities, games, and Sown To Grow checkins.

Examples of some advisory activites are below.  Advisory groups work together throughout the year to identify favorite games, activities, and discussion topics that they use each week.

Sown to Grow

All students use Sown To Grow once a week in advisory in order to provide a data point for social emotional wellbeing, to help build connections between students and their advisory teachers, and to serve as an additional way for students to make their voices heard.   Watch the video to the left to learn more about Sown To Grow.
